Department of Odia
About Us
The Odia Department was started in the year 1975. It started with Odia Honours classes at B.A. level with sixteen students and now the intake capacity of Thirty Two students at B.A. level every year. It has introduced P.G. classes inOdia Language and Literature in the year 1992-93with Twenty Four students. It fulfils the Higher Education aspirations of odia Language speakers.
The department takes the credit of producing many University Rank Holders at B.A. level. Not only to educate but to create best human being with high moral values is the motto of the department. For this purpose, Extra Moral Lecture, Special Classes on Ethics through Literature and National Eligibility Test Classes (For PG students) are taken by experienced faculty members. To improve the communicative skill of students and healthy student-teacher relationship, Extra-curricular Activities and Seminars are organised by the students every year.
The department (For Honours and PG classes) follows the model syllabus of Berhampur University. The department provides specialised teaching on Folklore, Linguistics, Modern Literature and Medieval Literature at P.G. level. The P.G. department has its own departmental library. Presently there are five Regular Faculty Members and all are fully experienced in their respective specializations. Also they are working with different research publictions.
The P.G. department of Odia was declared as Centres of Excellence by Berhampur University in the year 2004. The department looks forward to create research environment and make teaching-learning process more effective through Language Laboratory.
