Department Of English
About Us
The English Department was initiated in the year 1981-82. It started with English Honors classes at B.A level with an intake of sixteen students. The Department has all along maintained an integral approach of imparting literary and communicative skills to the students across disciplines down the years. The Department takes the credit of producing many gold medalists and university rank holders. The healthy teacher-student relationship and active participation in extracurricular activities are other features of the Department. Along with academic pursuits the students organize departmental seminars and other literary activities round the year. The Department conducts English communicative classes for students of all disciplines in its Language Laboratory.
The Department since its inception aspires for excellence. It aims to disseminate English literary and communicative skills to the students. The Department endeavors to produce employable graduates with critical thinking ability who can take decisions to solve problems and communicate efficiently.
Presently the Department has five faculty members; three regular and two guest faculties. The esteemed faculty members are experienced resource persons in their areas with many research publications and national and international exposure. It has two class rooms and one Language Laboratory where teaching-learning is done through ICT mode. The Department follows the model syllabus of the state under Berhampur University.
The Department looks forward to expand its departmental library and publish its own Research and Student Journals. It aims to commence M.A. English program and organize seminars and conferences to invite experts in the field of English language and literature. The Department plans to create departmental career guidance cell to provide professional guidance and exposure to the students.
