Principal

Education is a liberating force.  Its transformative potential in a predominantly tribal area, for the people who have experienced social and cultural exclusion for centuries, has never been in doubt.

Established on 10th August, 1968 as D.A.V. College, Koraput in the Panchayat Bhavan Building, this College was taken over by the Govt. of Odisha on 10th July 1982.  In 1989, it has been declared as a lead college and renamed as Government College, Koraput in December 2012.  The college is now located at Landiguda, Six kilometres away from the town alongside NH26 with a sprawling campus of Sixty Acres.  The present strength of the college for +3 and P.G. classes taken together is 1600 plus.  At +2 level, the students strength is above Eleven hundred.  Teaching facilities exist at present in 14 subjects at +2 and +3 levels across the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce.  In Education and Odia, P.G. teaching facilities are available.  The college is listed under 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act.  It had its first NAAC Accreditation in 2006 and the second in 2016.

Everything is in flux, said the Greek thinker Heraclitus.  The college has withstood the vicissitudes of time in the process of transition from the era of print technology to the age of online Web page at present.  It has offered opportunities for education to several thousand students of humble origin, who have been the first generation learners in their families, thereby making democratisation of education and inclusive development, a part of their living experience.  The students have encountered hardship at every step ‘to get educated’.  On completion of Fifty years of existence and in educating a generation of pupils, this college is now all set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee!

Emulating the new yardsticks and parameter of Higher Education under the new dispensation of IDP-OHEPEE, the college is constantly called upon to measure upto new challenges.  The collective conscience of the college is wedded to the avowed objective of promoting an enlightened academic culture and striving for new avenues and opportunities that unleash new possibilities.
